We are a father & son team with over 50 years of combined beekeeping experience. Ken holds a National Diploma in Beekeeping (the highest qualification available) and is an examiner for the British Beekeepers Association, whilst son Dan is currently studying towards Advanced Beekeeper accreditation. We have operated a commercial beekeeping business in Devon since the 1970’s.
Each year we run a winter beekeeping course for beginners, comprising six classroom sessions held on a weekday evening, and two practical apiary sessions held on weekends in March and April. Bees are livestock, so need to be managed with sympathy and understanding. We aim to introduce you to beekeeping, following the British Beekeepers Association ‘Basic Certificate’ syllabus, giving you the skills and confidence to begin to manage your own bees.
The course fee includes all tuition and materials, a copy of the well-respected book “Guide to Bees and Honey” by Ted Hooper, use of protective clothing and tools, and of course refreshments!
Both the classroom and apiary sessions will take place near Ottery St. Mary, on the following dates:
